My wife always says the wrong shoes can just ruin her day. That’s always made me chuckle just a bit. Seemed like silliness.
Not anymore…
How The Wrong Shoes Spoiled My Plans
Some days, it just seems it isn’t meant to be.
This morning, I was behind schedule getting out the door for work. So naturally, I was rushed getting my stuff together. When I got to the gym for my lunchtime workout, I started jerking stuff out of my gym bag and tossing it down on the floor to get changed. Imagine my surprise when I was confronted with the following sight…
After getting my workout clothes on and adjusted, I looked down to observe that, not only had I managed to grab one running shoe and one cross-trainer. I took the screw-up to a whole new level by having the same foot.
Just wrong.
So, I started tossing my stuff back in the bag in disgust. About halfway into it, I thought – why not just stretch.
I’m certain I looked like a complete goofball, walking barefooted to the aerobic room. But, truth be told, I need to spend more time stretching anyway, so it was probably a good thing for me.
So, I improvised a short workout as follows:
Jumping rope: 300 reps
Plank: 3 reps, 30-seconds each
Pushups: 78-reps
Rollups (on stability ball): 15-reps
Stretching: Trunk stretches, piriformis stretch, forward fold, hamstring stretch, cobra — 2 reps each side, hold 30-seconds each.
Although it was not as intense as my usual workout, I feel like I made relatively good use of my time, despite my botched shoe fiasco.
What do the readers say? Thumbs up or thumbs down?

You are so much better than me. I would have just thrown in the towel and gone home!
You’re a better man than I! Oh wait…
I would have improvised like you did. I’d have worn my socks, though. I’d rather have dirty socks than dirty feet!
That’s not a bad workout – especially compared to no workout! If you’re in a chair for a majority of the day at work, you will want to throw in some glute exercises (that might be included in rollups – I don’t know those by that name).
And I’m sure you know but I’ll say it anyway – if you pack your bag the night before, it won’t matter if you’re running late in the morning
I am with Andrew, I would have packed up and went home. I am trying to do better, but if something interferes with my exercise plans, I normally just don’t exercise.
@Andrew – I nearly did. Had actually changed back to street clothes before switching back.
@Erin – I was going to wear socks, but they were mopping the locker room floor and I detest wearing wet socks.
@D – Yeah, proper prior planning. Today I packed the night before…
@Ron – It’s an easy trap to fall into. Used to be the norm for me.
