As the end of 2009 rapidly approaches, it’s time to look back and examine my progress over the course of the year. I’m not exactly looking forward to this-but here goes.
1. Perform 12 unassisted pull ups (overhand grip, shoulder width)
My best effort for the year was 9. For whatever reason, I stalled out on this front around September and never made gains beyond that point. Probably means I need to alter my workout.
2. Complete one sprint distance triathlon
This was a maintenance goal, as I’ve managed a few of these already. However, I waited too long to pick an event, and was left with only my local race, which I was loathe to do again. What can I say? When it comes to speed on a bike, I’m a chicken.
3. Run a 5K in under 25 minutes.
I only ran one 5K this year, and that was on Halloween. I ended up finishing with a time of 26.01, so I fell short of my goal. Even at that though, I was still pretty happy with the result, as running took a bit of a backseat this year to other fitness-related activities.
4. Complete 100 consecutive pushups
My PR for the year was 89. This is another one that I stalled out on. Truth be told I wasn’t faithful to the program though.
5. 17% Body Fat
I went yesterday and checked in at 183.5 pounds and 16.8% body fat. I’m pleasantly surprised at this, as I fell short of several of my goals for the year.
This year has proven to me again how fitness-related goals can get pushed to the back of the line when life takes over. But even though I fell just short in several areas, I’m still pretty happy with the year overall.
Have you taken the time to review your goals for 2009? If so, how did you fare?

A pretty impressive effort overall I reckon!
