The Beauty Of Running At Sunrise
I resolved yesterday to go running at sunrise. Fall is rapidly approaching here in Southern Kentucky, and the heat and humidity are finally letting up a bit. The temperature has dropped off into the mid-70’s, with lows at night into the low 50’s, so the weather has been absolutely wonderful. Combine that with the fact that my family and work schedules have been nuts, and its been tough to fit in time to run over the last few days. I needed a run.
I stopped by the park on my way to and headed out just before sunrise. When I arrived, there weren’t any cars around, so I had the entire place to myself. It had been a cool evening, and the temperature was 53-degrees (F) when I left the house. There course is fairly rolling, and there was light fog in the low areas, so the entire run was picturesque. My cell phone camera is pretty bad, so I’ve just about given up on taking pics when I run. Fortunately, my wife’s camera was in the car, so I grabbed it and took this photo. You can see the sun just peeking through the trees, about 20-minutes after sunrise.
I guess a lot of people had the same idea, because when I left, I counted 24 cars in the lot, and the trails were starting to get some traffic. But for just a bit, I had the entire place to myself. Running at sunrise is peaceful, with nothing for company but the crunch of your shoes on the gravel, as the rest of the world is just waking up. It’s very therapeutic. Just the remedy for putting the hustle and bustle of daily life in perspective.

I love it as well. Unfortunately I can only really run that early on the weekends since my little monkey started daycare.
