I'm very self-competitive, but not so much with other people. My perfectionism manifests itself in my running as an inability to hold back, even when I know it's in my best interests to do so. I kind of blew my 1st marathon last year by running a 5k all-out just a few day beforehand (not a wise choice). I'm trying to be more disciplined this time around, and I'm not going to race much until after the marathon is over.

As a fellow perfectionist, I can feel your pain.
