Grown Up Food And Conversation
My wife and I got to play grown up this past weekend. My parents kept the kids (Thanks Guys!) and we spent an evening in Louisville, Ky. It was to be an early celebration for our upcoming 10-year anniversary. When we were planning our trip, we looked at what was going on, and decided we’d try to listen to some live music and go out for dinner. After some asking around, we settled on Z’s Fusion. We’ve talked before about how much of the human experience revolves around food. Although it’s not necessarily a good thing, it isn’t all bad, either. That decision made, she called me up to let me know we were going to eat someplace that required reservations! We’re living large.
Good Dinner Conversation
We had reservations at 7pm, and arrived just in time. The restaurant was styled in dark colors with electric blue lighting. The wait staff was dressed in black “wrap-style” suits that was vaguely Asian. We were shown immediately to our table, and it became apparent that we were going to be treated to a very nice dining experience. We weren’t disappointed, either. The food was impeccable, and served almost as a work of art, rather than something to be consumed. Most of the dishes were seasoned with things like lemongrass, ginger, etc. Its not often that we get out and about like that, so it was a very nice treat. It’s also not often that we spend a full two hours eating our meal. Although the food was very good, the best part was being able to focus on having a quiet dinner conversation with my best friend.
Such a large part of the human experience centers around food. I had started to wonder if that’s a bad thing. But Saturday night reminded me that, just like so many things, properly tempered its a good thing. Like with so many things in life, overindulgence is what causes things to get out of hand. A nice meal can be just the ticket to help you bond with someone you care about. Part of the reason so much human interaction centers around food is because everyone has to eat. It provides us with the chance to share some quiet time together. In today’s world, time is one of the most precious commodities we have.
