What Did You Eat On Superbowl Sunday?
Did you go to a Superbowl party on Sunday? Even if you didn’t go to a party, did you take the opportunity to have some scrumptuous Superbowl food? A few of my buddies were talking about the game this year. Most of us agreed that the game is fun to watch, but the best part of the entire day is the food and commercials. Considering the economic situation this year, we expected the commercials to suck, so food it is. So, what did you eat on Superbowl Sunday?
Superbowl Food Favorites
Superbowl Sunday food is anything but healthy. Let’s go down the list of some common Superbowl food favorites…
- Buffalo Wings
- Beer
- Nachos
- Chips & Dip
- Mac ‘N Cheese
- Fried chicken
- Pizza
- Hot Deviled Eggs
- Oreo cake
- Potato skins
- Veggie tray (who eats this, anyway?)
- Fried cheese sticks
- Little smokies
I think we’ve got a pretty good list started here. Unfortunately, all this stuff tastes pretty great. And, to be honest, if I could sit down and have just a handful of any one of these foods, it would be O.K. A single serving of any of these foods adds up to around 500-calories, and we shouldn’t even consider the sodium. There are two problems though. The first is that a single serving is about a half-cup, or 2-4 pieces. I don’t know about anyone else, but I don’t have the willpower to eat that little food when there’s nothing to do but watch the game and talk. We don’t usually go to “parties” as such, but in the past we’ve picked a few things off this list and made them up. Then snacked around on them over the course of the game.
This year, we decided to take a different tack. Instead of making up finger foods to munch on over the course of a few hours, we decided to grill out. Some tasty kabobs with mushrooms, red peppers, onions, zucchini, and yellow squash. Go figure that the weather would allow that. We’ve been in the midst of an ice storm, but Superbowl Sunday was nice and warm, so we got some steaks and kabobs for grilling. It would have worked out great, except I somehow managed to botch kabobs. So, instead, I threw some hot dogs on the grill. Add on some tortilla chips with melted pepperjack cheese, and say bye, bye to low cal, and hello to sodium. Oh well. It could’ve been worse, I guess. At least I didn’t go for the bacon explosion, right?
What’s your favorite Superbowl food? Did you worry about calories on Superbowl Sunday, or was it a free day?
