Week In Review
This past week was an excellent week for my workout/fitness objectives. I got in three strength training days, and two running days. Unfortunately, my weight still floated up to 194-pounds, which I know is a by-product of my eating. We’ve had some preliminary Halloween activities this week, and as much as I hate to admit it, I just plain like candy, and my willpower hasn’t been up to snuff. We had a sales representative come to visit on Wednesday, and he brought in some “old” candy that was reminiscent of my childhood: sugar daddies, buckeyes, etc. Everyone over the age of 35 pretty much attacked the stash, while the younger folks didn’t seem to care much for it. Nostalgia at work I guess. I think part of my poor discipline is tied to my sleeping habits, too. I haven’t slept as well this week, and I definitely find that I snack more when I’m tired. So, I’ll be focusing more on getting my rest, and staying disciplined about my eating again.
An added bonus this weekend was that my eight year old son and I went for a hike in the woods on Saturday morning. Its not very often we get a chance to spend some quality time alone like that, and I think its important to grab the chance when it presents itself. I was going out to get ready for hunting season, and he went along just to see what I was doing. We walked slowly through the woods, enjoying the chance to observe some wildlife. He got within 5-feet of a squirrel that was burying nuts for the season, which really tickled him. Once he started laughing, we were busted, but that was O.K. Before it was all over, he was rolling around on the ground laughing. I never knew a squirrel could be so funny…
I did get my flu shot this weekend, so that’s a check-mark on my list of “to do” items. If you’re interested, I did hang close to the office for a half-hour after getting my shot so as to avoid a repeat of my wife’s flu vaccination experience on Friday. Looking forward to next week, I’m expecting it to be a short one for exercise. I have two work-related activities that I expect will interfere with my ability to do my regular workouts. I may try to get make-up sessions in at night with body-weight routines. Any suggestions for body-weight exercises?
