My Halloween Costume And How To Get A Six Pack

This past weekend we took our kids to the Nashville Zoo Ghouls at Grassmere Halloween event.  It was a nice day.  We went down Saturday afternoon, walked through the zoo, and let the kids play on the most excellent playground.  After a few hours, we left to grab a quick dinner, let the kids change into their costumes, and went back to the zoo for the Halloween party.  Many zoos have events similar to this, where the kids can come and “trick-or-treat.”  Volunteers set up stations and the kids walk around getting candy, or if the parents are lucky they’ll give out trinkets.  Most of the stations gave out things like hand games, bouncy balls, and (much to the parents annoyance) noise makers!

Anyway, when we were leaving to grab dinner before the event, my older child came to the realization that I didn’t have a costume.  In his mind, this was a travesty and it needed a remedy.  He asked repeatedly what I was going to wear.  Even Mommy had devil’s horns to wear and he didn’t want Daddy to be left out.  It was sweet, but I didn’t have a costume.  We joked about it for a bit, and on a lark, I told him I was going to go in my Birthday suit.  All of them thought this was hilarious, and thought I should go as Tarzan.  This lead to my wife kidding me about not being a good Tarzan because my skin is so pale white, and my oldest child pops up with “… Daddy, you’d have to work on your abs if you want to be Tarzan…”  Now, what do you say to that?  All I could do was laugh, because hey — it’s funny.  I’m coming to realize that you can always count on your kids for honesty.

How to get a six pack abs

So that of course begs the question — How to get a six pack abs like Tarzan?  Although you may hear talk about targeting spots to lose body fat, generally speaking, that’s bunk.  It’s not possible to lose fat in only one place unless you choose to undergo cosmetic surgery.  You have to reduce overall body fat.  All of us have abs buried under a layer of fat, and eliminating that fat layer will uncover those coveted abs.  Couple that fact with solid core strength training, including the following list of the best oblique exercises for men, as well as the transverse abdominis, and you’re in business.  From what I’ve read, men have to get to less than 10% body fat.  Women who achieve body fat of less than 14% will display their abs.  This agrees with the old saying that a six pack is built in the kitchen.  So, I guess I’d better get on it.
