My Breakfast Fruit Smoothie Recipe
I love Southern breakfast food, and grew up eating what I’d call a “traditional” Southern breakfast. Biscuits, gravy, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, and honey or jelly. I still love that food, and relish in the opportunity to have it when I can, but I only eat it a few days a month now. Why? Because its loaded with calories, and unfortunately I no longer burn enough calories to justify eating like that. For weight loss and health, I decided to go for a frozen fruit smoothie for breakfast

My wife likes to rib me about these. I start most mornings with a breakfast fruit smoothie, made in a blender. My recipe goes something like this…

Everything gets tossed in a blender and ran on high for about a minute. I’ll pour it in a glass and drink it through a straw on my way to work. I also mix it up, varying the ingredients with other fruit or substitutes for milk, but this forms the basis. Why?
According to most of the information out there, Americans do not consume nearly enough fruits and vegetables. This is my effort to start my day off with a good serving of fruit. When I originally started this endeavor, I did not use whey powder. I started adding it to get the protein content up, but I have to admit it does make the mix a little gritty. All the research you read extolls the virtues of blueberries. They are packed with antioxidants. All the fruit contributes soluble fiber, which is great for both weight loss and overall health as well.
