My Wife And Cooking
I have to say… my wife can cook. She’s quite the excellent cook, and its something she seems to enjoy. This is both a blessing and a curse for me.
She grew up in a home where the men would EAT! I do mean that in all caps, too. When we first got married, she wanted to fix my plate for dinner. All I had to do was sit down at the dinner table and partake of the feast. She put more food on my plate than I knew what to do with, and I learned something. You have probably seen the articles about portion distortion, and the studies that show that people will eat whatever quantity of food is on their plate, right? Well, its all true! Often times I would go back for second helpings, too. The food was excellent, and I my waistline showed it.
When I started changing my eating habits, she took the it personally. It was as if I was insulting her by fixing my own plate and eating less food. I explained to her that I was simply trying to reduce the calories I was consuming, and eventually she saw things my way. It was rough at first though.
Changing your eating habits is very hard. When you make the decision to change your lifestyle, those closest to you may not understand initially, and can even attempt to sabatoge you, albiet unintentionally. Making the choice to change your lifestyle is hard, and if your loved ones question you, explain your decision and be patient with them if they don’t understand at first. But stick to your guns.
