So yesterday I got a call from an acquaintance of mine, wanting to know if I’d like to play a little tennis. I played “back in the day,” and although I wasn’t every a great player, I could go out and hit the ball around and not look like an idiot. I have also become a great believer in the subject of cross-training. The idea being that by engaging in a wide variety of activities will improve overall strength and reduce the chance of injuring myself.
It’s been about a year since the last time I played tennis, but what the heck, right? So I went out and we played for nearly a full two hours. You can see from this calculator at Calorie Control.org that we each burned somewhere in the range of 1400 calories. Both of us commented that we thought we’d have more left in the tank toward the end.
I came home feeling tired, but not like I’d been beaten with sticks. That’s a good thing, right? He wants to make it a regular weekly thing. This morning I’m not so sure. Shoulder’s sore and I can definitely tell I did something new. I’m sure I’ll feel different in a few days though.
